Six years ago, I found myself on bed-rest at 26 weeks pregnant with twins. We had just moved to a new neighborhood and I’d been forced to quit my job as a 6th grade teacher. My bed-rest ended when our twin boys were born prematurely at 30 weeks, necessitating a lengthy hospital stay. (Thankfully today they are healthy and rambunctious 6-year-olds!) During this difficult journey, full of cloudy days, we were able to experience sunshine amid the storms because of the thoughtful service of loving friends, family and neighbors. The kindnesses shown to us, in a variety of ways, touched me so deeply that I committed to pay it forward. Since then, I have tried to make it a priority to reach out and serve those around me and have found healing and purpose in the process.
In 2014, I moved to Dublin with my small family. During our time there I watched as many friends and family members experienced miscarriage, loss of a child, marriage, death of a loved one, divorce, birth of a baby, infertility, new jobs, loss of a job, etc. I wanted to reach out to show my love and support, but had a difficult time finding anything that I could send from afar. That is when the idea of Care Crates was born. I wanted to make it easy for others to find beautiful, personal and affordable gifts for both happy and sad times. Each item in our Care Crates has been hand picked and personally sampled (by me!) to ensure that not only is it something great, but that it is also that I would love to receive.
I believe in working together with local small businesses, so each Care Crate includes at least one item from a Utah-based small business. I hope you will join us in our effort to make the world a brighter place, one small act of service at a time. Let’s spread sunshine together!
